Japanese exchange students met with students from Oleai Elementary School during last week’s intercession. Young visitors spent the day at the Oleai campus with their student hosts Wednesday.

They learned to make coconuts hats, watched bead making, tasted local foods and listened to local music. Thursday, the Japanese and Oleai students spent the day at PIC.

The Mayor’s Office sponsored a farewell dinner at the Carolinian Utt in Garapan.

Japanese students and Oleai students enjoyed the cultural dances and local foods. Also in attendance were Oleai Vice Principal, Jess Wabol, and Oleai staff members Angie Fitial, Ray Agoun, Rufino Tudela and Katharyn Tuten-Puckett. Harvey Lee from the PREL office in Hawaii was on Saipan and joined the evening’s festivities offering his translations for students.
