Frederick A. Black, United States Attorney for the District of the Northern Marianas Islands, announced that Majorie D. Sablan yesterday entered into a plea agreement with the Unites States government.

In her appearance before the Federal District court, Chief Judge Alex R. Munson accepted Sablan’s plea to violating Title 18 United States Code Sections 2 and 1028(a)(1) and (c)(3)(A).

The charge stems from an investigation conducted by the joint CNMI/FBI Task Force. Special Federal Officer Ed Cabrera, who is with the CNMI Division of Immigration and a member of the task force led the investigation of Ms. Sablan.

Agents were able to uncover evidence that on or about July 27, 1998, Ms. Sablan, who was employed at the Department of Labor and Immigration, did knowingly and intentionally without lawful authority aid and abet Gloria Villagomez Castro and other persons to produce a false entry permit for Ying Yi Huang.

Ms. Sablan accepted bribe money in exchange for aiding and abetting the processing of the unlawful permits.

The investigation into other individuals involved with this crime is on-going.

Ms. Sablan who could face a maximum of five years imprisonment in a federal corrections facility is scheduled to be sentenced on August 7, 2001 before the Honorable Chief Judge Alex R. Munson.
