Players bumped, set, and spiked their way around the sand courts behind the Pacific Islands Club as the fifth consecutive Coors Light Co-ed Beach Volleyball League got underway last week.

This season the league is made up of nine teams, as Cyphers, Gansha, Government Cheese, Rusty Slinkys, Faulker, That’s Not Your Yogurt, Givity, Team 9 and the Cleveland Steamers go toe to toe in the sand.

All of the action got started as Cyphers smoked Gansha in the opening game, winning two of three sets. Rusty Slinkys were able to dole out Government Cheese, while Givity went down to Cleveland Steamers.

On Thursday, May 6, the evening’s games began as Rusty Slinkys took out Team 9 as the sun finally set. Cyphers picked up their second win of the season against Faulker in the second set of matches, followed by Givity getting jiggy over That’s Not Yogurt.

Tuesday May 11 saw the winless get wins as Faulker dumped Cleveland Steamers, Government Cheese got deep sixed by Team 9 and Gansha gobbled up That’s Not Yogurt.

PIC sports manager, Evan Hunsberger wants to encourage all that are interested to take part in the fun. “We just want people to come out and have fun. If they just want to sit and watch and cheer for the teams, that’s good too,” said Hunsberger.

Games will be played Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6pm, 7pm, and 8pm through the end of the season on Thursday, June 13.

The team with the best win-loss record after eight games will be crowned the regular season champ, and a single-elimination tournament will be played Tuesday, June 15, for additional prizes.

Each team of seven players is permitted four players on the court, with the stipulation that one female be on the court at all times.
