An all-women set of officers has been elected in the Thursday Night Women’s Bowling League, marking the first time women have full control of the association.

In elections held last May 13 at the Saipan Bowling Center, Lucy S. Deleon Guerrero won a fresh mandate to lead the women’s league. Guerrero has served as president the past two seasons and boasts of increasing participating teams from a low eight two years ago to 12 teams this current season.

“This is the first time ever that women are in control of their own league – having their own officers and all being female. I’m very happy with the results of the elections and would continue to serve the Thursday Night Women’s league as best I can. Of course, with the help of the rest of the officers and the whole membership,” she said.

Elected along with Guerrero are Emy Quitugua as vice president, Tanya Halstead as secretary, Akit Cepeda as treasurer, and Regina Andres as sergeant-at-arms.

After the elections, the new officers of the Thursday Night Women’s Bowling League joined 18 of its members in a friendly and impromptu bowling game they dubbed Moonlight Bowling.

Veteran Cora Muna won the competition, knocking down 209 pins and took home $100 in cash. With 196 pinfalls, Rizza Hensley, mother of perfect-game winner Jonathan Hensley, finished second and earned $75. President Guerrero, meanwhile, continued her streak of good luck rolling 190 pinfalls and took third place and with it the $55 purse.

Guerrero said the Thursday Night Women’s Bowling League would probably make the impromptu tournaments a staple of its weekly bowling calendar. “Next up is the No Tap Bowling tourney,” she added.

In other news, the Thursday Night Women’s Bowling League moved to its fourth week of competition with SAISHIP at the helm. Saipan Stevedore Amazons currently sit in second place, while Missing Link occupies third place. Baby Blues, J’s Team, Miller Lite Sharp Shooter, Marianas Variety, Playaz, Verizon, Budweiser, Cha’Mu, and Lady T’s complete the 12-team rankings.
