Council lauds cultural agencies
The 8th Saipan and Northern Islands Municipal Council recently adopted a resolution commending the officials and members of two cultural agencies for the successful staging of the 23rd Annual Flame Tree Arts Festival, held at the American Memorial Park on April 16-18, 2004.
The resolution praised the Commonwealth Council for Arts and Culture’s board of directors under the leadership of its chair, Escolastica Igitol Taitano Iguel; the staff members of the Commonwealth Council for Arts and Culture under the leadership of its executive director, Robert W. Hunter; and the staff member of the Department of Community and Cultural Affairs under the leadership of Secretary Juan L. Babauta
The 23rd Annual Flame Tree Arts Festival featured the Pohnpean Association, the Yapese Association, the Palau Association, the Hawaiian Association, the Tahiti Association, the Chinese Association, the Thai Association, the Welippal Dancers, Urali Dancers, Talabog Woman Dancers, the man’amko delegations, Paraisu Cultural Dancers from Guam, and the Palau Delegation, among others.
The arts festival was dedicated in honor of Ramon Manglona of Rota, a traditional artist, who played a significant role in ensuring that the CNMI’s cultural and artistic heritage are strengthened and perpetuated. The council deemed this not only fitting but appropriate.
“The members of the Municipal Council and the people of the CNMI are extremely gratified to the Commonwealth Council for Arts and Culture, the Department of Community and Cultural Affairs and those individuals who helped in making this [arts festival] successful, exciting, rewarding and memorable one and for a job well done,” part of the resolution reads.
The resolution was certified by chair Gregorio V. Deleon Guerrero and vice chair David A. Indalecio and attested by secretary Antonia M. Tudela.
