Eco Camp has announced a junior counselor program for summer 2004 that will train students in camp counselor skills. Eco Camp has teamed up with Verizon to offer a camp experience for kids aged 13 to 16 who want to be camp counselors.

“The program will run concurrently with Eco Camp,” said Camp Director Keirsten Hess. “Traditionally, kids 13 and above want something different, but most are too young to work; this new program will serve as a bridge to future employment. Our older kids will participate in traditional camp programs but at the same time they will learn how to plan and lead those activities, their group will interact with the younger groups during the camp session.”

Located at the Mariana Resort and Spa, Eco Camp will feature activities, including go karts, horseback riding, kayaking, golf, tennis, snorkeling, arts and crafts, swimming, soccer, computers, and more.

Camp facilities include three swimming pools, a snorkeling beach, dive pool, golf course, go kart track, arts and crafts room, buffet lunch, baseball and soccer field, and more.

Locally-owned Marianas Trekking manages the Camp and its owner, Chris Nelson, is excited to offer Eco Camp in 2004, “We have a great team in place and are looking forward to our best summer yet. We look forward to hiring graduates from our Jr. Counselor Program in the future to work at Eco Camp.”

Space for the Junior Counselor program is limited. Eco Camp runs Monday through Friday in two-week sessions throughout the summer. Ages are from 4 to 13 for Eco Camp, 13 to 16 for the Junior Counselor Program. Special features include a pick-up service, and buffet lunch option. Eco Camp is priced at $175 per two-week session of camp. Applications are available on-line at www.ecocamp.mp, the Mariana Resort and Spa, Gold’s Gym, or in your Verizon Phone Bill.
