The annual trek of the Tinian/Okinawa Friendship Association to Tinian two weeks ago was as somber as in previous years, with Japanese family members and friends paying tribute to those who died on Tinian’s Suicide Cliff 60 years ago.

Chairman Choken Ginoza, coordinator of the group, brought with him about 80 family members and friends and their own film crew to record the event for posterity.

Tinian Mayor’s Office staff member Joey Charfaurus reported that, alhough conditions at the site were warm, “the beautiful weather is one that you can always count on year after year, for not once do I remember ever seeing a drop of rain fall on the occasion; a perfect day indeed.”

On hand to pay homage with the group were Tinian Mayor Francisco M. Borja, Municipal Council members and members of the community, who also joined in the burning of incense for the spirits of the deceased.

Borja later hosted the group with a fiesta-style party at the Kammer Beach Main Pavilion.
