If you love to watch four-on-four team volleyball in the sand, then you have got to go to the Pacific Islands Club tonight and witness the single-elimination tournament that will complete the 5th Annual Coors Light Co-ed Beach Volleyball League season, and crown a new champion.

All of the action gets underway tonight when the two teams tied for the final playoff spot engage in a one-set battle to determine the final seed in the tournament. Since winning their first two contests, the Rusty Slinkys (2-6) have been on the bad side of a six game losing streak. While That’s Not Yogurt shares an identical record, they have won two of their last three games to even with the Slinkys. The Slinkys and That’s Not Yogurt go toe-to-toe at 5:30pm. The winner will be at it again in the following match-up at 6:10pm versus the top seeded team, Team 9 (7-1).

Since losing in their opening match against the Slinkys on Thursday, May 6, Team 9 has gone on to win its remaining seven games en route to winning the regular season title. This will be the final opportunity for the 9 to prove that they are indeed worthy of the championship.

At 6:50pm, one of the powerhouses of the league, the fourth place Cyphers (5-3) look to smoke the fifth-rate Gansha (3-5). In another of the one-set races to 15, the resilient third-place Cleveland Steamers (6-2), and the sixth-place Givity (3-5) vie to advance in the one-night affair at 7:30pm. The final duel in the first round sand pits a team with a great name and a poor record against a team of poor spellers. The seventh-place Government Cheese (2-6) battle the second seeded Faulker (6-2) at 8:10pm.

The second round and the finals will follow the same format, with teams playing single sets up to 15 in 40 minute intervals. The tournament is set to end around 11:30pm, but if that’s too late for you to watch, you can always enter the 6th Annual Seaside Grille Beach Volleyball Weekend on the sand courts behind the PIC.

Beginning Friday, June 18 and continuing through Sunday, June 20, two- and four-person teams will take to the sand with volleyballs in hand. The two-on-two Men’s and Women’s Doubles divisions will battle it out on Friday and Saturday while the Co-ed Four Person division will do all of its bumps, sets, and spiked on Sunday.

Registration for the tournament must be completed for the doubles by Thursday, June 17 at 6pm. The cost for doubles teams is $20, while the fee for the four person co-eds is $50. The co-eds may have a maximum of five players on their team, and a female must be on the court at all times.

There will be an assortment of cash and PIC prizes for competitors, along with plenty of volleyballs, drinks, waterpark passes and discounted room rates.

If you are interested in signing up for the tournament, contact Jon, Evan, Nan or Dennis by calling 235-6231 using extensions 5147 and 5148, via email at jon@picsaipan.com, or just stop by the SEA Office at the Pacific Islands Club.
