A 22-year-old female almost fell victim to a kidnapping incident early Tuesday morning while walking behind the Duty Free Shoppers Galleria.

Department of Public Safety public information officer Thomas A. Blas Jr. said two unidentified suspects attempted to rob and kidnap the victim.

According to a police report, the victim, whose name was not disclosed, was walking south with a companion when a dark colored four-door sedan approached from behind and slowly paralleled the two. One of the suspects in the vehicle then asked the victim and her companion if they needed a ride, and the two refused the offer.

“At that point, the male suspect in the backseat of the sedan grabbed the victim into the vehicle. The victim struggled with the suspect and managed to escape out of the vehicle as it was driving away, falling out into the roadway,” said Blas.

The victim sustained minor scratches and was brought to the Commonwealth Health Center for treatment.

Blas said the incident has been referred to as the NMI Crime Stoppers Crime of the Week.

Blas urges anyone with information about the incident to call the Criminal Investigation Bureau TASC office at 664-9045/42, or the Crime Stoppers hotline at 234-7272.

The Crime Stoppers pays cash rewards of up to $1,000 for information leading to an arrest. Caller ID is not used and all calls remain anonymous.
