The winner of the “Name -The -Mall and Design-a-Logo” contest will finally be known today in a ceremony at the Governor’s Office.

“The governor will announce the name of the mall and present the winner in the contest,” public information officer Pete C. Callaghan said yesterday.

The announcement will take place at 2:30pm.

Callaghan said the winning entry was chosen among 148 other entries submitted to the Governor’s Office for a month.

The decision was made by a five-member panel of judges composed of the heads of the Marianas Visitors Authority, the Japan-Saipan Travel Association, the Hotel Association of Northern Mariana Islands, Saipan Chamber of Commerce, and the Saipan Economic Development Council.

Each judge, according to Callaghan, independently came up with their top 10 choices. From their lists, they took out the top five entries, and finally the winning entry.

The Governor’s Office has said that the community’s interest in the contest “has been overwhelming.”

The contest, which allows individuals to submit their preferred name and logo design for the newly constructed street mall in Garapan, began last July 2 and lasted for a month.

The contest winner will receive $1,000.
