Library Friends to hold another book sale
Library Friends will be having another book sale this coming Saturday, Sept. 18, 2004, from 9am to 4pm at the Joeten-Kiyu Public Library conference room.
Anyone who wish to help can come Friday evening at around 6pm or on Saturday to lend a hand with the actual sale.
Those who come Friday evening will have first choice of the books for sale. Also, anyone wishing to donate books, magazines or tapes for the sale may bring their donation to the library.
Library Friends will also be holding its next meeting on Monday, Sept. 20, 2004, 5pm at the conference room.
In addition, Library Friends is currently in the middle of a membership drive and all residents of Saipan are welcome to join. Library Friends was formed in 2001 to support the Joeten-Kiyu Public Library and promote literacy in Saipan.
They have held book sales, sponsored summer and Christmas reading programs, held holiday craft activities for children, donated books to the library, and used their funds from book sales to donate prizes for reading contests held by the library and the Library Friends.
Library Friends is also working on a plan to convert the library conference room into a children’s library, complete with a local cultural theme and materials.
In Oct. 16, 2004, Saturday, Library Friends will also hold a Halloween craft activity for about 25 children from 9am to 11am at the conference room. There is a $10 fee and parents must come to the library to sign up and pay in advance for the first come, first served program.
