Fitness fair to promote healthy lifestyles
The word on opportunities to engage in activities promoting healthier lifestyles on the island has been spreading, and among the activities that will soon unfold is the Heart of the Marianas CNMI Family Fitness Fair.
Scheduled to take place this Saturday, Sept. 25, from 6am to 2pm at the Minachom Atdao Pavilion on Susupe, the event would feature five and 10-kilometer walks, health screening, live entertainment, exhibits, as well as games for all participants.
The event is hosted by the Women’s Affairs Office and the Saipan Walking Association Inc.
According to SAIWAI, registration for the event begins at 5:30am at the pavilion. The walk starts 30 minutes later at 6am.
Participants in the shorter course would trek from the pavilion to the Japanese Tank and back, while those in the long course will hike to Kristo Rai Church in Garapan and back to the pavilion, a distance of 10 kilometers. Both walks will be along the Beach Road Pathway.
After the walks, a health screening will be conducted by the Department of Public Health at no cost. Screenings include cholesterol and glucose for the first 100 participants. Participants would also be treated to live entertainment such as a martial arts demonstration, as well as an exhibition of various physical exercises. Families also get to have fun, as SAIWAI and WAO will prepare parlor games.
Refreshments will also be served.
