A fully pumped Bill Bratzski’s downs the Winkle

The windy weather played a small part throughout the night, but all of the teams competing in the 6th Annual Miller 4-Person Beach Volleyball League had to play in the same conditions on the beach volleyball court at the Pacific Islands Club.

While the elements have not been so predictable come game time, the outcome of several of the matches seems almost predetermined. There is a definite trend developing in the league that follows the axiom: the winners keep winning and the losers keep losing—with one exception.

The Bill Bratzski’s (that old so and so) captured their first win when they exploded all over the dreaded Winkle in a three set sweep. The match was no roll in the hay for the Bratzski’s, but the team that had previously known nothing but defeat shot the winkle before Shoot the Winkle, could shoot the winkle to take the first set 11-9.

The second and third sets went a little easier for the Bratzski’s, as they mopped up the court with Winkle, 11-1 and 11-6.

The Bill Bratzski’s return to action next Thursday, Oct. 28, when they try to give Flush It! a swirley at 8pm, while Shoot the Winkle takes aim at the Bananas on Tuesday, Oct. 26 at 6pm.

The Bratzski’s were the only exception to the rule, as the MHS Dolphins, Sleezy Lambleezies, and the Bananas all walked away with wins over teams with a combined win total of one.

The Dolphins of Marianas High School swam out of the gate and smacked the Clam Smackers in the first two sets, 11-7 and 11-8, but needed a little extra in the third. With the game already won, the servin’ students crammed in a third set victory 12-10 to improve their record to 5-2.

The Clam Smackers return to challenge Esemuoel next Thursday, Oct. 28 at 8pm while the under-aged overachievers play that same night against Machigainai! at 6pm.

That same Machigainai! team had their shot at the Sleezy Lambleezies on Thursday night as well, but they played the part of the hunted rather than the hunter. For the fifth time in a row, Machigainai! failed to come away from their match victorious, but they seem to be having a good time living in O-ferville.

The SL Express continued their upward climb by advancing their record to an impressive 4-1 as they swept the Machigai’s 11-2, 11-7 and 11-4 in straight sets.

The Lambleezies return to face Team Papalatung on Thursday, Oct. 28 at 9pm, while Machigainai! will try to extinguish the Dragon Flares on Tuesday, Oct. 26 at 9pm.

The final match of the night featured the Bananas and Esemuoel in a late game thriller, as all three of the games were as close as bananas to their peels. Unfortunately for Esemuoel, all of the sets went to the Bananas, who incidentally did not monkey around.

The yellow fellows gained the advantage by taking the first set 11-7, but both teams went ape in a second set that went into extra points. The Bananas took that one, 13-11, in exciting fashion.

The final set did not hold the same amount of drama, as the Bananas has already won the match, but the Bananas pulled out a 11-7 win to seal the peel.

All the side-outs you can handle will be doled out again next Tuesday, Oct. 26, at the PIC. If you would like further information about the 6th Annual Miller 4-Person Beach Volleyball League, contact Jon, Evan, Dennis, or Nan by calling the SEA office at 235-6231 ext. 5147.
