Ador Dimaano had his timing right and proceeded to roll in excess of 200 pinfall games in all four of his matches to win the October Pepsi King of the Lanes Tenpin Bowling Tournament Monday night at the Capital Bowling Center.

Dimaano, who normally awards the prize money for monthly winners as part of his duties as an officer of the Saipan Bowling Association, knocked down 860 pins in the four-game series to average a whopping 215 pins a game.

The Fun and Games operations manager started off on the right foot, bowling a 229 his first time on the wood and maple lanes. He followed that up with an equally impressive 225 and then wound up with scores of 200 and 206 to snatch the monthly tenpin bowling tournament sponsored by Pacific Trading Co.

“What can I say, I had a good roll. My timing was perfect and after the second game on I was feeling very special. I got a little tense in the third game but I was able to maintain my composure and still finished strong,” said the righthanded Dimaano who hails from Pasay City, Philippines.

Kitz Barja finished a far second, 63 pins short of Dimaano’s total with 797 pinfalls for an average of 199.25. The Micronesian Brokers, Inc. general manager started out strong and took the early lead with games of 226 and 234. But Barja succumbed to the pressure in the final two games, sputtering to roll a 168 and a 169 and had to settle for second.

First-day leader Glenn O. Garde fell all the way down to third place after his 791 total pinfalls wilted against the charge of Dimaano and Barja. Garde couldn’t have started any poorly following an anemic 148 pinfalls in his first game. But to his credit, the boyish-looking bowler followed that up with scores of 197, 235 and 211 to bounce right back into contention.

Dimaano pocketed $150 for his first-place finish, while Barja and Garde also came away with $70 and $50, respectively.

One of the leaders Sunday was Alex Cacdac, but like Garde the lanky bowler had to take a backseat and finished fourth overall. Cacdac totaled 784 pinfalls after four games built around games of 194, 169, 212, and 209. Cacdac earned $35 for all his troubles.

Like Dimaano and Barja, Paul Pangelinan also rolled off Monday but came up only with a fifth-best finish in the tournament. He came up with a total score 781 after a four-game series of 218, 186, 172, and 205. Pangelinan went home with $30 for his efforts.

The rest of the Top 8, with their scores and winnings in parenthesis, were as follows: Mark “The Shark” Halstead (773, $25); Celso Agui (770, $20); and John Santos (764, $15).

The October Pepsi King of the Lanes Tournament attracted a total of 73 entries. The monthly bowling competition is organized by the SBA and is sponsored by PTC. It will culminate with a season-ending championship tournament in January.
