Natibu, Fadang and Da Boyz step up in SSA
Friday night was a night for Fadang as they wrangled the Outlaws in five innings of work to get the weekend started in the continuation of the Men’s Island Wide Slow Pitch Softball League at the Oleai Sports Complex.
Fadang scored four runs in the top of the first inning to get the ball rolling, and piled on another nine in the second en route to a 19-5 rout of the Outlaws. The bulk of the runs came courtesy of a nine-hit second inning, but Fadang continued by adding five in the third and one in the fifth to put the game out of reach.
Ray Santos led the charge for Fadang with a 3-for-5 performance at the plate with a pair of singles, a double, and RBI and two scores.
Fadang pitcher Jeff Pangelinan allowed just one run through three innings but was pulled in favor of Ando Camacho in the bottom of the fourth when he walked three consecutive batters. The duo combined to allow five runs and eight walks.
Fadang earned their second win of the season to improve their record to 2-6, while the Outlaws continue to prove that crime doesn’t pay at 0-6.
Friday night was also a night for Natibu and Da Boyz, as the squads made the most of their time underneath the lights against Team Juan Santiago and Buddzz, respectively.
Natibu cruised to a 22-10 victory over the TJS to improve to fourth place with a record of 6-2, but they started off in a hole. Down 2-0 after TJS had their first at bat, they got the night’s triple-header underway by blasting six runs in the bottom half of the first to take a lead that they would never relinquish.
Natibu ocho-ocho’d in the second and third on the wave of 15 hits between the two innings before bowing out 1-2-3 in the bottom of the fourth. TJS had one shot at prolonging the game when they entered the top of the fifth inning, but they needed to score seven runs to do so. TJS scored four, and that was all she wrote.
Joe Tudela was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with a single, a triple and a home run and an RBI for Natibu, while teammate Roy Magofna was 2-for-3 with a pair of dingers and two ribbies. Ned Norita wasn’t too shabby either, going yard twice, knocking a single, scoring three times, and bringing home six base runners.
Buddzz and Da Boyz had a showdown as well, but Da Boyz proved to be too much, in the game, scoring 23 runs off of 27 hits—including an amazing third inning in which they scored 13 runs off of hits. Da Boyz were leading 19-5 after three innings, and caught a bit of a scare in the bottom of the fifth inning when Buddzz rallied for eight runs to close the gap to 23-17. Buddzz tacked on a couple more in the bottom of the sixth, but it wasn’t enough.
Vinnie Sablan and Tom Diaz were Da Boyz bash brothers. The slugging siblings combined to hit 10-for-10 at the plate with four singles, two doubles, three triples, a homerun and 10 runs batted in.
