An 80-year-old tourist was found dead in his hotel room Wednesday afternoon, according to the Department of Public Safety.

DPS public information officer PO2 Eric F. David said the cause of death of the man, whose identity was withheld pending notification of the next of kin, was not known as of press time, but an autopsy has already been recommended to determine the cause.

David said that at about 3:49pm, DPS received call reporting a possible dead person at room 227 of the Hyatt Regency Hotel Saipan in Garapan.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the victim was scheduled to check out at noon before traveling back to Japan.

“The victim failed to check out at noontime and at 3pm, the front desk office manager proceeded to the room of the victim and found the [him] in the bathroom motionless,” he said.

Police managed to identify the victim through his passport.
