Tan Marikita’s Café to hold grand opening this Sunday
Sipping coffee and enjoying the creamy taste of New York-style blueberry cheesecake at the new outlet of Tan Marikita’s Café is a luxurious treat—good enough reason to visit the Garapan tourist district.
With its newly acquired steam-injection oven, the café is getting ready to bake specialty breads like those that could be found in Los Angeles and San Francisco.
Two weeks after opening up the outlet on Beach Road, Garapan, the café, operated by Herman’s Modern Bakery, will formally hold its grand opening day on Sunday.
“We’re going to have lots of products here for the public to try,” said the café’s manager, Kyle Calabrese. “I hope that everyone will stop by and try the samples that will be given away.”
He said the samples would be available all day to anyone who would visit the café, which regularly opens from 6am to 10pm. Samples include specialty cakes, pies, cookies, sugar-free products and other pastries, Calabrese said.
Sun visors and baseball caps would also be given away during the grand opening, Calabrese said, adding that Miss CNMI Tracy Del Rosario would grace the occasion.
The newly opened café has been attracting tourists and local residents alike, filling the seats in the morning to enjoy coffee and breakfast.
“The breakfast crowd is so big,” Calabrese said. “Pandesal is selling like hotcakes here. We bake the pandesal fresh here.”
The café, which carries the slogan “Where breakfast is served to perfection all day long,” can easily became a favorite hangout in Garapan, with its relaxed and airy interiors and the ever present smell of newly baked bread.
Its substantial menu includes Tan Marikita’s Special Breakfast consisting of Tan Marikita’s style fried rice, Spanish sausage, two eggs of any style, and Herman’s sweet bread.
Other favorites include the Tun Herman’s Special Breakfast, a meal of two soft-boiled or poached eggs, bacon, and Herman’s sweet bread; and Chamorro Breakfast, which consists of steamed or fried rice, Portuguese sausage or Spam, two eggs of any style, and Herman’s sweet bread.
Steak n’ Eggs—which consists of U.S. Choice steak, two eggs of any style, and a choice of steamed rice, country-fried potatoes or toast—is fast becoming a favorite for breakfast and lunch.
The café offers an array of beverages, including café latte, cappuccino, espresso, Starbucks coffee, house coffee, iced tea and fruit juices, among others. It also sells Marianas Coffee Co.’s products, including coffee beans that are freshly roasted locally.
A guest may also watch Herman’s cake decorators artistically preparing personalized cakes as they are ordered.
The establishment of the Garapan café came about in response to the public’s strong demand for a new Tan Marikita’s outlet besides the one it has had along the Tun Herman Pan Road since 1979. The café has a well-designed, comfortable setting for a pleasant dining, and is conveniently located in Garapan just across from Winchell’s.
