Democratic senator Luis Crisostimo said there is no way he would resign before a party primary is held, as suggested by party chair former governor Froilan Tenorio.

“It doesn’t make sense. I don’t listen to such nonsense. I have better things to do and that’s serving my people. I’m an elected official,” he said in an interview.

Tenorio earlier challenged Crisostimo to resign from his post now if he believes he has a running chance in a Democratic gubernatorial primary.

“Why wait after the primary? If he [Crisostimo] thinks he can beat me, he should resign now. Do it before the primary,” Tenorio had said.

This came about after the senator disclosed that he would run for governor next year and that he would challenge Tenorio in a party primary. Tenorio said last week that the party would meet to discuss the matter.

Tenorio, who re-joined the party recently, now serves as its central committee chair.

Meantime, Crisostimo said that he would submit his letter of intent to run for the highest elected office to the committee by December.

“It would be my Christmas gift,” he said.

Crisostimo said he would also consult with his family and supporters on the issue.

As far as the primary is concerned, he said, “I’m confident that I’d be victorious.”

Earlier, he said that if he beats Tenorio in the primary, the former governor would be his running mate.

Crisostimo, 43, won a Senate seat in the 2003 midterm elections.
