Flush It! downs the Winkle to get ahead
It seems that the only team in the league that will be able to beat Flush It! is Flush It!, as the undefeated squad shot down Shoot The Winkle to improve their record to 8-0 atop the standings in the 6th Annual Miller 4-Person Beach Volleyball League.
Only Flush It! is the only team that has managed to escape unscathed on the beach volleyball court at the Pacific Islands Club, and while that may change next week, the FI-guys kept their bragging rights on Thursday night with a three-set sweep of the Winkle.
Prior to this game, the Winkle had pulled themselves out of the lower-class level and into the realm of the playoff bound. After dropping their fifth game 11-1, 11-7 and 12-10, the Winkle was flushed out of top eight.
Flush It! returns to the courts next Thursday, Nov. 11, when they take on Bend It Like Megan at 7pm, while Shoot the Winkle sees action on Tuesday, Nov. 9, when they try to redemption against the winless Esemuoel.
Next week’s game between Flush It! and Bend It Like Megan was shaping up to be a battle of the undefeateds, but all of that changed when the Dragon Flares scorched the Megan-like contortionists in two out of three sets.
The Megans were 5-0 when they entered the sandy sand, and they were cruising toward 6-0 after the Dragons flamed out in the first set 11-4. The momentum and the game changed hands in the second set when the Flares turned on their pilot light and edged the Megans 11-9 in a hotly contested second set.
With the game tied at a set apiece, second place was on the line for the Megans, but they didn’t play up to their potential. Rather than extending their winning streak to six, Bend It Like Megan went in the opposite direction to suffer their first loss, 11-3.
They fightin’ Megans return to the courts next Tuesday, Nov. 9 to face the Clam Smackers, while the Dragon Flares play later that night against Tell Them Tom Braider Sent You at 9pm.
The same Tom Braider’s were challenged by a bunch of Bananas in the third match of the night, and they kept their hopes alive by earning their fifth win of the season against the yellow fellows.
The Braiders plucked the Bananas 11-4 in the first set, but slipped on their peels in the second 11-6. The Braiders learned not to monkey around with the Bananas, and in the third set they went Donkey Kong for a 11-3 aping of the ill-nanas.
Tell Them Tom Braider Sent You is back again next Tuesday, Nov. 9, at 9pm, against the Dragon Flares, who will take on the Bananas on Tuesday, Nov. 16 at 6pm.
The final match of the night featured a pair of team that provided more high flying action than a plane load of parachuting mimes left to shape out their chutes, as the Sleezy Lambleezies and the Clam Smackers went three sets in the sand.
The SL Express was on rockin’ its way through PICville on Thursday night, and they only stopped in the second set to drop off aid for the widows of the fallen mimes.
Led by Leaping Laurie Peterka and Dapper Dan Westphal, the Lambleezies laid a 11-5 smackin’ upon the Clam in the first set to get the ball rollin’.
While they were off loading supplies for Mime Aid ’04, the Lambleezies allowed the Clam Smackers to return the favor with a 11-6 rebound.
The horn sounded, the steam plumes rose, and the Clambake began as the SL Express fired up the boilers to begin the third set.
The Sleezy Lambleezies chugged over the Clams 11-6, and went to Second Placeville when they improved their record to 6-1. The Express returns on Thursday, Nov. 11, when the battle the MHS Dolphins at 6pm, while the Clam Smackers try to break Bend It Like Megan at 8pm next Tuesday, Nov. 9.
