Woman wanted for alleged theft
A warrant was recently issued for the arrest of 35-year-old woman who reportedly stole over $12,000 from her employer.
The suspect, Marissa P. Meijia, is being charged with theft by deception and theft/embezzlement.
Documents obtained at the Department of Public Safety indicated that the suspect was employed as an accountant for the past three years with PHILPAN Co., which was appointed to handle collections of monthly rental fees for the Executive Homes Apartments in Gualo Rai.
Upon a review of rental collection records, the company’s manager, whose name was not disclosed, discovered overdue unpaid rentals of 29 tenants. The manager verified with the tenants, only to find out that payments were made to Meijia.
The manager questioned Meijia about the rental fees, and she reportedly admitted taking the money and sending it to the Philippines to assist her family.
Another staff member allegedly informed the manager later that Meijia was preparing to leave Saipan for the Philippines.
Meijia allegedly collected about $12,107.24 in monthly rental fees from July to November 2004.
The incident was reported on Nov. 2. An arrest warrant signed by Judge David Wiseman was later issued on Nov. 4, with bail set at $10,000 cash. Wiseman also ordered that Meijia’s travel documents be seized.
