Another local student is making good academically, earning recognition from the school where he is currently enrolled in.

John Paul Demapan, the youngest son of Frank and Lela Demapan of San Vicente, recently received praise from the University of Texas at El Paso for obtaining a semester grade point average of 3.5 or higher for at least 12 semester hours in the Spring of this year.

“Only a small percentage of students enrolled in the college have obtained a grade point average that is this high,” Howard C. Daudistel, dean of the UTEP, told Demapan in a statement.

With his achievement, Demapan’s name will appear on the College of Liberal Arts Dean’s List.

“Academic excellence is realized only by students who commit themselves to a rigorous course of study and scholarship. Therefore, on behalf of the College of Liberal Arts faculty, please accept my congratulations for a job well done,” Daudistel said.

Demapan is currently a sophomore at UTEP.
