Freedom Air keeps on flying
After taking a 14-0 lead in the top of the fourth inning, the Freedom Air Flyers held off the Island-Mix to earn their 10th consecutive win of the season by a score of 24-20, in continuation of the Saipan Softball Association’s Men’s Island Wide Slow Pitch Softball League Monday.
Led by heavy hitting Hector Efraim, the Flyers scored 24 runs off of 27 hits, including a eight-run, eight-hit fourth inning in which every player in the line up got a chance to bat.
Efraim was a perfect 5-for-5 at the plate with four singles, three scores, three runs batted in, and a homerun. Teammates Frank Camacho and Ben Mesa also cranked out homers for the undefeated Flyers in the four-run victory.
In the first game of the night, Verizon La Chai lambasted Buddzz for 27 hits in their 26-10 beat down that was shortened by the 10-run mercy rule. A day after leading No Ka Oi to the championship of the Pacific Islands Club Tournament, John Reyes went 4-for-4 at the plate with two singles, a double, a homerun, three scores and a pair of ribbies.
Teammate Joey Dela Cruz was 3-for-4 at the plate, but thanks to a Buddzz error, scored all four times on base. Dela Cruz knocked a single, a triple, and a homerun while racking up three runs batted in.
In another mercy-shortened match up, X-clusive exterminated Da Boyz 26-12 in the final game of the triple-header. X-clusive racked up 27 hits in just five innings of work, and slugged five homers out of the park.
Shortstop Dane Lizama held the big stick on Monday, reaching base successfully in four out of five attempts with a trio of base knocks, a double, two ribbies, and three scores.
X-clusive also got a solid performance from J.J. Camacho, who went 4-for-5 with a pair of singles, a double, a triple, three scores and a RBI, while teammate Byron Kaipat chipped in two singles, three scores, and an inside the park three-run homerun.
There’s plenty more softball action on the way, as Slow Pitch returns tonight, and every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday starting with the first game at 6:30pm. The Fast Pitch hits the diamond at the same time on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
