Fourteen-and-under defending champion Oyea of Guam had a rousing debut in the 3rd Annual Pacific Rim Youth Goodwill Tournament, drubbing Hopwood-Blue 117-24 Tuesday night at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.

Seeing action in the second game, Oyea limited an overmatched Hopwood team to four points in the first quarter, while scoring 28 themselves.

The carnage spilled over in the second when the Guamanians continued to pour it on and led by a whopping 52 points, 59-7, at the half.

It was more of the same in the second half with Oyea celebrating with the 93-point rout. Tali Caughman led all scorers with 17 points, while Craig San Nicolas, Crag Taitague, and Argon Duenas chipping in 14 points apiece.

Earlier, Guam’s Southern Youth Basketball Association nailed their second straight win in the 14-and-under division after beating Saipan age group champion Garapan Rollers I 76-55.

G-Rollers I managed to keep the score close in the first half but SYBA stepped on the gas pedal in the second and left their opponents biting their dust.

Dominic Sablan led the victors with 28 points, while Jonathan Fayton added 15. Jose Castro paced G-Rollers I with 16 markers.

In other games, Sixers II topped Hopwood-White 79-11 in the third and final 14-and-under age group match of the day, while Tinian outplayed Sparks II, 79-30, and Sixers edged Cyclones, 80-73, in the day’s two 18-and-under division games.

Sixers II were all over Hopwood-White the entire game and were led by the 14 points of Nathan Flores. Tinian, meanwhile, surrendered only two points in the first quarter and cruised to the victory. They were led by the 13 points of Ton Evangelista.

Sixers I, for their part, survived a 30-point explosion from former teammate J.R. Ngeskebei. Kevin Cequena and Julian Ranas played the role of fireman the entire game and scored 29 and 20 points, respectively.
