Out with Dr. Macris

As acting president of the Guam Medical Society, I am very disappointed in the lack of respect demonstrated by the GMH Medical Director toward our organization in regards to the demolition of our office space.

At no time within the past four weeks has this Medical Society officer been notified that the hospital would move forward with removal of our property from the current Physician’s Lounge. Common courtesy would dictate proper notice and Dr. George Macris has failed to demonstrate even this modest effort.

This uncivil behavior by the GMH Medical Director is not an anomaly. He has repeatedly obstructed the Guam Medical Society’s efforts to advocate for improved patient care and has gone so far as to malign the entire organization publicly.

Dr. Macris was not chosen by the physician community to be in a position of leadership. His selection by the GMH administration was done in apparent violation of hospital bylaws which require that the medical staff participate in the selection of medical director. Among the most serious concerns regarding his role as medical director for our public hospital is that Dr. Macris has historically refused to participate in the GMH House Call for indigent patients.

As a member of the GMH House Staff, I am hereby requesting that Dr. Macris step down or be removed as medical director. I urge all other island physicians to do the same.
