CHC and the Fiji midwives
The treatment by the Commonwealth Health Center of the Fiji midwives should be thoroughly investigated because it has impacted the professional care being offered to mothers at the hospital. To leave such care in the hands of inexperienced personnel could harm the mothers and babies. The departure of many surgical and medical doctors and the assignment of American nurses to take over the midwives’ duties on a training basis should also be a part of this investigation.
The departure of several good doctors has caused major problem at the hospital, resulting in the proper follow-up of many serious sickness of our patients being discontinued. Also, the number of patients waiting for long hours at the hospital has increased due to the shortage of doctors. The number of death at CHC should be looked into and compared with previous years.
It is impossible to recruit professional doctors similar to those who have already spent some years in Saipan. Professional workers will stay, only if the condition of work are well protected and organized. Of course it is easier to recruit younger ones but that is only because they need practical experience and training. With the present economy we are faced with, it’s much better to stay quiet and work to protect our people.
Let us join together in support of ensuring proper care that meets the need of our people.
