Calling on all CNMI baseball masters
While the youth of the Commonwealth are preparing for the upcoming leagues of the New Year, their parents and relatives are being called out to lace up their cleats and oil up their mitts, as the CNMI will be fielding two masters teams this summer in Guam.
According to team coordinator Tony Rogolifoi, players ages 35 and over will be needed to fill two teams for the Guam tournament that runs from Saturday, June 4, through Saturday, June 11.
Teams from all throughout the region will make the journey to the southernmost island in the Marianas chain to compete in the hardball-athon—to include Japan, Korea, Palau, Australia, and the Philippines.
According to Manny Tenorio, the CNMI needs players for the 35-and-over team, as well as the 40-and-over team, and there will be a meeting for all interested players this Thursday in the conference room at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium at 6pm.
“It’s open to anyone, and that’s why we need a lot of guys to come out and play for us,” said Tenorio.
Each of the rosters is limited to 25 players, and the slots are already beginning to fill up. For more information about the teams, contact Rogolifoi by calling 664-2508, or Tenorio by calling 322-1213. (Brad E. Ruszala)
