IWVBL matches continue tonight
The bumpers, setters, and spikers of the Island Wide Volleyball League were disappointed when their regularly scheduled games at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium were cancelled on Tuesday night.
According to site coordinator Tony Rogolifoi, the six-on-six competitions were scrubbed due to a lack of officials. No rescheduling dates have been announced as of yet, but dates are likely to be released within the coming days.
Eight teams left the Oleai facility with frowns on their faces on Tuesday night, as four games were on the docket—two in the men’s and women’s leagues.
The good news is that all of the sideouts, digs, and rally points of the IWVBL return to the rubbery surface of the Ada Gym tonight at 6:30pm.
When the men’s division gets back underway, the Lost Boyz (9-0) will return at the top of the division with an unmarred record, but both No Fear (6-2) and the Managaha Chief (6-2) have been making a run at the top spot throughout the season.
Not far behind them are the Rocball crossover Shag (4-3), NMC Proa (3-4), and the Chuukanos (3-4). This trio of teams still has a shot at making it deep into the postseason, but they need to find a way of winning the close games against the upper crust.
The same goes for the Ol’ Aces (2-6), as the squad of multi-sports athletes closely competes in every match. They just lack the extra “umph” needed to get over the hump. The Floaters (2-6) and the Monarchs (0-9) still have a long ways to go, but their enthusiasm is good enough to make their games close.
The women’s division is ruled by the dominating girls of Pikan Gaga (9-1). Thought they recently suffered their first loss of the season, they are definitely still the team to beat.
The teams that have the best chance of doing so are the Dragons (7-1) and the She Devils (7-2). Strong leadership and a number of skilled players will allow them an opportunity in the playoffs, but the remaining teams will need a little bit of luck.
In order for Bootylicious (4-6), Hitters (2-7), Haz Been (2-8), and T-8 (2-8) to win the championship, the key players will have to step up their game, and the role players will have to continue their strong effort on the court.
