Limes tops RGA February qualifier

Joe Limes set the standard for Refaluwasch Golf Association’s February Ace of the Month Tournament by carding a net score of six-under 66 in last Saturday’s qualifying round at the Coral Ocean Point golf course.
Limes, a 16-handicap golfer, beat out golf legend and RGA president Jess Wabol by five strokes. Wabol settled for second place after the three-handicap golfer fired a gross score of 74.
Wabol actually finished tied with two other golfers—Joe Wabol and Ben Duenas. He, however, edged the two via the front nine gross score tiebreak.
Jess Wabol totaled a 34.5 in the front nine, while Joe Wabol and Duenas came away with 35 and 36, respectively. Joe Wabol finished with a gross score of 89, while Duenas swung an 83 total.
Richard Pierce was fifth in the pecking order, firing an even-par 72 net after a gross of 83. Ed Kapileo and Tony Sablan wound up with identical 73s but the former took sixth place place on another front nine tiebreak.
Te rest of the 14 participants in the RGA February qualifier, with their net scores in parenthesis, were as follows: John Rubenog (74); Tony Satur (74); Mario Taitano (74); Sonny Flores (75); Norman Tenorio (75); John Tagabuel (75); John Guerrero (77); Pat Taitano (78); Joe “Kamikaze” Camacho (78); Ben Norita (81); Nick Guerrero (81); John Guerrero (83); Dimas Dela Cruz (85); and Frank Cepeda (94).
In the closest to the pin contest, Jess Wabol took the plum in holes No. 3 and 14.
Next up for RGA is the February Ace of the Month Tournament set for Feb. 19, Saturday, at a still to be announced venue. Tournament fee is $30 and slots for 16 players are available.
Jess Wabol said that the club is also entertaining new members at the start of the year. Membership fee is $50, which is the same cost for renewals.
The membership fee covers the period from January to December. The RGA president is also reminding current RGA members to take care of their membership dues as early as possible.
