The CNMI Senate adopted a resolution Friday honoring the late Dr. Jose Tenorio Villagomez and expressing condolences to his family.

Senate Resolution 14-02, which was passed during the Senate’s session on Tinian on Friday, acknowledged that Dr. Jose “Pingkina” Tenorio Villagomez, who died Tuesday last week, was one of the first native sons of the Northern Marianas to pursue a medical profession, graduating in 1953 from the Fiji School of Medicine.

Villagomez received his license to practice medicine from the government of the Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands in 1955.

“Dr. Jose “Pingkina” Tenorio Villagomez served the people of the CNMI in a span of over 35 years,” reads part of the resolution.

Villagomez had served as medical anesthetist from 1954 to 1965, chief of pediatrics from 1965 to 1981, and director of CNMI Department of Public Health and Environmental Services from 1981 to 1989.

The Senate said that Villagomez had also served in various other professional capacities for the promotion and advancement of health in the NMI.

House Speaker Benigno R. Fitial said Friday that a resolution honoring Dr. Villagomez will also be passed in a session next week.

The House will resume its session on Monday.

Dr. Villagomez interment is set on Tuesday.
