SS Ghost Company are paintball tourney’s best
The members of SS Ghost Co. were the sharpshooters of Sunday’s Speedball 3-Man Paintball Tournament hosted by Rueters Raiders Extreme Paintball Sunday at the extreme sport company’s facility in As Matuis.
SS Ghost Co. bested three other teams en route to claiming their first place trophies, breezing through the field with an undefeated card.
The elite squad, comprised of JJ Laniyo, Norman Tenorio, Sergio Rangamar, and John Guerrero, tallied a total of 387 points, over 170 points more than the next team in line.
Finishing in second were the Executioners with 211 points, while Recon placed third with 207 points. Targets rounded at the cast with only 7 points, however, and did not go home empty handed as they received the Sportsmanship Award—2,000 rounds of paint—contributed by Hard Corps Paint Ball.
SS Ghost Co. had control from the start, posting the highest score after the preliminary rounds with 197 points.
Tournament organizer Mike Rueters said the preliminary rounds were to determine which four teams will advance to the playoffs.
Seven teams had originally expressed interest in competing, however, because only four suited up for action, all four advanced. Targets had a good preliminary showing with 110 points while Executioners had 90 and Recon 7.
SS Ghost Co. jumped out to a perfect start in the playoffs, shutting down Targets 100-0 in the first match. The team eliminated all members of the opposition (7 points each), pulled the flag (20 points), and managed to take it back to their corner for 50 points. None of the three Ghosts were shot, adding an additional 9 points (3 points each).
In the second game, Recon dominated against the Executioners for a 97-7 win, with only one of its members being eliminated.
Ghost Co. continued on its successful run with another 100-0 win, this time over Recon, and the Executioners followed by trouncing Targets, 97-7, before falling to Ghost Co. by the same score.
Recon then bounced back with a 100-0 whipping of Targets, and had a chance to avenge their earlier loss but fell again to Ghost Co. 90-10 in the seventh game of the day.
The Executioners then capped the day’s action with a 100-0 victory over Targets.
“We just moved as a team and covered each other well,” said Ghost Co. sharp shooter Norman Tenorio. “We’ve played together before, so we’re accustomed to each others play.”
After a brief break, Rueters mixed members of the teams for a friendly competition.
