Youth soccer in need of an overhaul
The Commonwealth Youth Soccer Organization is in need of some serious spring cleaning according to interim president Peter Coleman, and will be postponing the start of the 2005 season until the fall rather than offer games to the Saipan’s future leggers in the current condition.
“For one thing, the board of directors is defunct. The one remaining member who is still on island is no longer interested in being involved, and we need to get a lot of the paperwork taken care of before we can get the kids on the field at the American Memorial Park,” said Coleman.
The youth of Saipan will still be able to “Bend it like Beckham” this fall, as Coleman has already begun the process of securing a location for all interested parents and volunteers to meet for a state of the organization meeting.
“We are going to reorganize, reconstitute the board, and have a full league underway this fall,” he said.
Coleman said that the league will most likely operate under the current set of bylaws and that he will be contacting organizations in the mainland for assistance in getting things started off on the right foot. In the meantime, he must wade through a sea of paperwork passed on by the outgoing president.
The good news for the kids is that with the league games and practices taking place in the fall, they will be free to participate in the fledgling T-ball season without a conflict.
The date and location for the next meeting of the CYSO are yet to be determined, but Coleman said that he will get the information out to the public as soon a he has them secured.
