Local language winners at Garapan Street Market

Student essayists take center stage tonight at the Garapan Street Market, adding to a night of entertainment by the man’amko and Chamorro dance troupe ISA Dancers.

Beginnng 6pm., the Chamorro Carolinian Language Policy Commission will begin awarding the winning essayists of its contest, “Sa håfa na prisisu na ta praktika i finó Chamorro?/Meeta e welepakk bwe sibwe kkepasal Refaluwasch reel /Why is it important to speak the Chamorro or Carolinian language?”

Man’amko from the Office of Aging will perform at 7pm and students will recite the top essays from elementary, jr. high, and high school at 7:30pm. ISA Dancers will take the stage at 8pm.

The Garapan Street Market is held every Thursday from 6pm to 10pm at the American Memorial Park and offers a wide selection of food, imported and local crafts, novelties, and free live entertainment.

Vendor payments are now being accepted at the Commonwealth Council for Arts and Culture, Department. of Community and Cultural Affairs, on Capitol Hill. For more information, call the council at 670-322-9982/3.
