SKN survives late push from Mwaliyas
It took four sets and double o-kon, but the young gunners of SKN downed the formidable Mwaliyas by a 44-58 score under the sun at the Marianas High School Green Court in the continuation of the World Organized Rocball yesterday afternoon.
Led by heavy hitter Ireksin Made, SKN dominated the Mwaliyas in the opening three sets to take a commanding 35-15 lead, but failed to “juice out” in the fourth set by allowing the Mwaliyas a 12-4 win to extend the game.
After dropping the first sudden death o-kon by a narrow 11-8 margin, SKN refocused their efforts to win the game in the double o-kon 11-6.
Made lead all scorers with 16 points off of five aces and three kees for SKN, while teammates Sheila Francisco, Danny Peter, and Dia Jones accounted for two aces, a xunk, a kee, and a goal.
Jeremy Winkfield had a good game for Mwaliyas, recording three aces, a kee, and a goal, while teammate Daryl Roligat recorded an ace and a kee, albeit in a losing effort.
SKN jumped out to an early lead over their upper classmen rivals by taking the first set 12-6, but surprised everyone watching the game when they smoked the Mwaliyas 11-1 in the second. The third set featured more of the same when SKN eked out a 12-9 victory, and though they played some inspiring Rocball, it seemed as if the Mwaliyas were heading for the dustpan.
Roligat, Winkfield, and company refused to get swept, and rallied Mwaliyas to upend SKN 12-4
All of the local-style action returns to the outdoor court of MHS next Tuesday at 12:30pm, when the next round of action takes place under the watchful eye of the sports founder Jim Feger.
