Teenager arrested for assault and battery at Kagman dance
A 17-year-old was arrested close to midnight on March 12 after beating up another teenager during a public dance at Kagman High School.
Department of Public Safety spokesman Eric David said the case is still under investigation but the teenager will likely be facing charges of assault and battery. No serious injury was recorded in the incident and the identities of both the suspect and the victim were withheld because both were minors.
KHS principal Doreen Tudela clarified that the teenagers involved in the altercation were not from her school.
“They were not Kagman High School students,” she said, adding that the juveniles only attended the event because the dance was open to everyone.
Tudela said she was the one who reported the complaint to DPS. She reported the incident at 11:05pm and personally brought the teenagers, escorted by other school staff, to the police station.
David also confirmed that, on the same night, there was a reported burglary and theft incident at KHS.
Tudela said one classroom at KHS was forced open and unidentified suspects destroyed chairs and other school furniture.
The DPS spokesperson said that there was no suspect arrested in the incident, although Tudela said a group of teenagers who went to the school dance might have something to do with the trashing of the classroom. David said the case is still under investigation.
