SSA: Two-weeks until the balls start flying
It has been a couple of months since the Island Wide Softball Association hung up their gloves and cleats to make room for the off-season, but when the year-round temperature is in the mid-80s, there is no real off-season for softball in the CNMI, and the league is once again helping players take advantage of the climate.
The cozy confines of the Oleai Sports Complex will be turned into a longball terminal when the masters of the underhanded arc will take to the field on Tuesday, April 12, at 6:30pm.
Before the sultans of swing get their first at bats, team representatives will gather next Tuesday, April 5, in the conference room of the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium at 6:30pm to discuss the schedule, rules changes, and requirements for the upcoming season.
According to the president of the Saipan Softball Association Robert A. Guerrero, there will only be 10 teams in this edition of the league, and to date there are eight teams already registered.
According to board member Ray Palacios, all teams must bring a copy of their rosters and the $800 registration fees with them to the meeting next week. Palacios said that if there is a late rush of teams, the league may be able to accommodate a couple of additional teams, but he didn’t say how many.
