Managaha Island has been voted for the second consecutive year the best place for snorkeling, while the Grotto was chosen as this year’s second best diving site at the Dive & Travel Awards.

The awards are organized by Marine Art Center Co. Ltd., also the organizer of Japan’s largest dive and travel show—the Marine Diving Fair.

The firm also publishes Marine Diving, Japan’s first and largest scuba diving magazine; Travel Diver, a magazine dedicated to islands and resorts; and Marine Photo, the only monthly magazine in Japan dedicated to underwater photography.

Readers of these magazines and participants of the 2004 Marine Diving Fair cast the votes to decide the winners in the 18 award categories.

“We are pleased to inform you that Managaha Island was chosen for the 1st prize in the Best Snorkeling [Site] category and Grotto was chosen for the 2nd prize in the Best Diving Site-Overseas category of the Dive & Travel Awards 2005,” Marine Art Center said in a letter informing the Marianas Visitors Authority of the choice.

Managaha received the same award last year.

The awards ceremony will take place at the 2005 Marine Diving Fair in Ikebukuro Sunshine City in Tokyo on Friday. Tens of thousands of divers and travelers are expected to attend the annual event.

“[The] Dive & Travel Awards will undoubtedly spur a new wave of traveling scuba divers,” Marine Art Center said.

MVA managing director Vicky Benavente said the tourism agency was very pleased to hear about the awards. “It’s always good to know that our destination is being recognized for its cleanliness and natural beauty,” she said.
