Just when she got released from custody while awaiting sentencing in a drug case, a woman fell to the hands of authorities again after allegedly peddling methamphetamine hydrochloride or “ice” on the day she posted bail.

The Drug Enforcement Administration-CNMI Task Force arrested Joaquina Pangelinan Reyes for allegedly peddling “ice,” as she awaits sentencing for conviction on similar charges at the Superior Court.

Reyes’ arrest came about soon after the U.S. District Court issued an arrest warrant against her.

In a complaint filed with the federal court, Customs officer Albert Palacios, a task force member, accused Reyes of peddling ice last Feb. 22. Munson issued an arrest warrant against Reyes based on Palacios’ declaration.

Palacios declared that Reyes had been arrested on similar charges in April last year after the conduct of buy-bust operations. The arrest led to the filing of criminal charges at the CNMI Superior Court, where she entered a guilty plea.

Last Feb. 22, the Superior Court released Reyes out on bail, as she awaits sentencing. On the same day, though, the task force said Reyes continued to engage in drug peddling.

Reyes appeared in federal court Friday following her recent arrest by the task force. Chief judge Alex R. Munson set a preliminary hearing on the drug distribution charge against her on April 11. The judge appointed Danilo Aguilar as Reyes’ lawyer.

Munson remanded Reyes to the Marshal’s custody upon the request of federal prosecutor Jamie Bowers.
