More clarifications
I guess I will have to break my word and write one more very brief letter in response to Mr. Camacho’s April 10 letter. I need to clarify two points he made. He stated in his letter, “If that is the case, then why is it so important for the people who make up and support the Azmar organization, e.g., Ken Moore, Don Farrell, Howard Cole, Dr. Thomas Arkle, as well as others, to get approval for the lease to mine Pagan? ” I am not part of the Azmar organization and do not know Ken Moore. except by what I read in the newspaper. Yes, I know Mr. Farrell and Arkle, but who doesn’t that lives on Tinian? Second, I do not support Azmar’s leasing of Pagan. Unlike Mr. Camacho, I have followed this issue closely from the beginning and I saw a chance for the CNMI government to make a quick few million from the lease, which MPLA blew. Mining may never have occurred on Pagan because Azmar may never have gotten the permits to mine once they have gotten the lease. I only saw the CNMI government winning in this situation and would have supported any corporation that was interested in mining on Pagan. It didn’t have to be Azmar.
Next, Mr. Camacho states, “Furthermore, the primary reason for no one “banging on MPLA’s door back in 1995 and over the past decade for the permit stems from the simple fact that there was never a formal marketing campaign by the CNMI government to draw prospective organizations from both the mainland, as well as the Orient.” So has MPLA gotten the word out? Is there any other corporation interested in the pozzolan? If there is, this can only benefit the CNMI. Please get the word out. But, from what I have read, I don’t think there are any other parties interested in the pozzolan because of the risks involved.
The only reason why I responded to Mr. Camacho’s first letter about EIR’s is because he had his facts wrong! He still has his facts wrong and should do a better job of research to reflect his educational level.
