Two schools on Saipan recently participated in the National Job Shadow Day by linking up with the Transportation Security Administration on Saipan and enabling the students to see how TSA conducts its day-to-day activities and operations.

According to Viola Sablan, TSA-Saipan’s customer support and quality improvement manager, students from the Saipan Southern High School and Kagman High School were given the chance to “shadow” TSA screeners as they went about their daily tasks at the Francisco C. Ada/ Saipan International Airport.

The National Job Shadow Day, which was held on April 7, is a national campaign that introduces students to work through hands-on learning and a one-day mentoring experience.

Stanford Miyamoto, acting federal security director, said the Job Shadow Day was “very beneficial” to both the students and TSA personnel.

“The students gained an insight on the layered security at the airport and the dedication of the GSN TSA workforce. At the same time, our screeners appreciated the interest shown by the students and gave the TSA GSN staff and screeners an opportunity to positively influence the future educational and job related goals and objectives of the students during their formative years,” Miyamoto said.
