2 women arrested for alleged prostitution and overstaying
Authorities arrested two Chinese tourists who are suspected of engaging in prostitution while allegedly overstaying on Saipan.
The two women—Tang Xing and Zhang Haixia—are now facing deportation proceedings at the Superior Court. The Immigration division petitioned the court yesterday for orders compelling the two women to show cause why they should not be deported from the CNMI.
Based on sworn declarations submitted by Immigration investigator John Peter, the two women both arrived on Saipan on Oct. 5, 2004. They had short-term tourist status, which expired last Nov. 4.
It appeared, though, that police first arrested the two women for alleged involvement in prostitution activities. The Immigration division then sought arrest warrants versus the two women.
Lawmen nabbed the two at the Department of Public Safety’s headquarters in Susupe last Monday in connection with alleged immigration violations.
The Immigration investigator accused the two of overstaying in the Commonwealth without lawful documentation and authority to remain on the islands.
No application to renew or extend tourist status has been submitted by the two women, the investigator said. He added that Tang and Zhiang did not have temporary work authorizations, nor do they have pending labor claims or employment applications.
Associate judge David Wiseman imposed $1,000-bail on each of the two women in connection with the deportation proceedings.
