PSS holds SPED stakeholders dinner tonight
The CNMI State Board of Education is inviting members of the board and the public to attend a Special Education stakeholders’ dinner tonight at 6pm at the Saipan Grand Hotel.
Public School System Special Education coordinator Joanne Nicholls, Early Childhood coordinator Suzanne Lizama and Guam CEDDERS official Dr. Nieves Flores will present to the board and the public the findings of the Office of Special Education Programs when they visited the Commonwealth’s school system last month.
Nicholls said the team from the Special Education Programs office of the Department of Education in Washington D.C. visited the CNMI for a four-day training among teachers and staff. The team also reviewed the Special Education system on the island.
She said the presenters will also show guidelines on the procedures the school board has to take for the betterment of Special Education in the CNMI.
BOE special assistant Perry John P. Tenorio is encouraging Education board members to attend so that a quorum could be attained at this dinner. Parents, teachers, principals and concerned citizens are also invited to attend.
Tenorio said the dinner is not designed to be a regular or special meeting of the board but a quorum may be present to participate in the discussion.
The public is welcome to attend, said Tenorio, but they will have to pay for their own dinner.
