April’s message of Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention goes to the Flame Tree Arts Festival this weekend with a Kids Corner devoted to games for parents and children to share.

The Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention Month Committee under the Division of Youth Services, Department of Community and Cultural Affairs, will organize games for children ages 3-8 and their parents. Activities will include cake wake, water balloon toss, egg toss, tug-of-war and others. There will also be a drawing competition and prizes will be awarded for activities.

“We want to emphasize that that Kids Corner at this year’s festival is an activity for parents and children to enjoy together,” said DCCA Public Information Officer Catherine Perry Anderson. “We want to correct earlier information that the Kids Corner would be providing supervision of children. Rather, DYS is providing another opportunity through the Festival for the healthy interaction of parents and children. We invited every family to stop by and have fun.”

Information on child abuse and neglect prevention will also be distributed at the site.

The Flame Tree Arts Festival is the largest annual arts and crafts festival in Micronesia, featuring live performances and booths for artists to display, sell, and demonstrate traditional crafts and contemporary artwork.

The festival will kick off with the Parade of Cultures today, April 15, at 5pm on Beach Road, from the Carolinian Affairs Office to American Memorial Park, where festivities will continue until 11pm. Festival hours on Saturday will be from 9:30am to 11pm and on Sunday from 9:30am to 10pm. (PR)
