Tinian’s DFW officers certified to carry guns
Enforcement officers of the Division of Fish and Wildlife on Tinian recently held a certificate training so they could carry side arms as issued by the enforcement section of the Department of Lands and Natural Resources on Saipan.
The training was held from March 29 and 30 at the Tinian shooting range, said DFW officer Robert Magofna.
CNMI firearm Instructor Ambrose Ogumoro and DFW’s firearm instructor Frank Rasa conducted the training as part of the certification program.
The Tinian DFW enforcement officers who are now certified to carry side arms are Henry Cabrera, Henry King, Joe San Nicolas and Elvin Masga.
King received top honors during the training and certification period, said Magofna, after earning the best-accumulated scores in the certification requirements. The scores were gathered based on the written test and actual shooting test.
Magofna said the Fish and Wildlife Division enforcement officers are assigned to take the lead role in enforcing Public Law 2-51, which is to provide protection of fish, game and corals in the CNMI.
All enforcement officers on Saipan, Tinian, and Rota undergo side arm training and certification. These enforcement officers would have to take a re-certification training and exam next year as their certification for the year expires.
The re-certification program aims to ensure that the enforcement officers’ knowledge of safety, firearm maintenance and firearm etiquette is properly maintained.
