OML finally wins Friday Night League
Onwell Manufacturing Ltd. waited for 15 agonizing seasons before finally claiming the championship of the Philippine Bowling Association-Capitol Bowling Center Friday Night League.
After several runner-up and second runner-up stints, OML reached the top of the mountain in the 15th season taking home first place with a 62-34 record. Philippine Consulate came in a far second with a 58-38 slate, while Verizon Nitro DSL claimed third with the same record but lost on a tiebreak.
OML team members, led by team captain Wellington Ang, received their trophies from PBA officers Ross and Gigi Zapanta and Ador Dimaano during a short awards ceremony Friday night at the CBC.
“Actually our team has placed runner-up more than a couple of season before winning everything this season. We are always a place away from winning the championship and I’m glad that this season we were able to push through. When we started out the season, the team was like average. We can hardly win. Everything went well as the season progressed and it was in the middle of the season that we were able to ignite,” said Ang.
The rest of the team is made up of Richard Leong, Art Macaspac, Edgar Marquez, Milo Orallo, Manolo Reyes, Robert Perez, and Alex Uy.
Ang said unlike previous seasons, OML was especially motivated to bring home the bacon this season and showed its killer instinct in very opportune times.
“Even before the championship series, OML was already two places ahead of the second place team. But we didn’t feel complacent and we still won three of four games, even though we only needed to win two,” he said.
Ang said on behalf of his teammates, he would like to thank their sponsor for supporting them and not giving up after 14 seasons of fruitless finishes.
“We would also like to thank Onwell Manufacturing Ltd. and its general manager Mayce Cheng for supporting our team all the way,” he said.
OML won $600, while Philippine Consulate and Verizon got $350 and $250, respectively. Rounding out the top five were UIC (55-41, $150) and Cooking Gas (53-43, $100).
Other teams that participated in the Friday Night League were SAITRANS, Horizon Lines, El Kapitan, Verizon Reload, Ambyth, Outlaws, Rajamsbelle, GPPC Inc., AgriPacific, Coca-Cola, and JMC-Trans.
