A woman facing charges of forgery and theft yesterday turned herself to authorities after learning that an arrest warrant had been issued against her.

Over the weekend, the Department of Public Safety announced through the media that the Superior Court had issued an arrest warrant against 46-year-old Elizabeth Romero.

Romero’s friend contacted the Saipan Tribune and relayed the woman’s intention to surrender to authorities, but in the presence of an attorney.

The Saipan Tribune relayed the message to chief public defender Masood Karimipour, who turned the woman over to the Attorney General’s Office.

“She [Romero] was cooperative. She brought her passport,” Karimipour said.

Associate judge Kenneth Govendo allowed Romero’s temporary release on an unsecured $10,000-bail. Govendo released Romero to Patricia Kaipat as her third-party custodian.

Police has accused Romero of forging checks and pocketing cash amounting to $2,000. Police said the woman used to be employed with WM Engineering Services.
