Mettao fires score to beat for RGA May Ace
John Mettao topped the Refaluwasch Golf Association May Ace of the Month Qualifying Tournament held last Saturday at the Coral Ocean Point Resort golf course.
Mettao carded a gross score of 82 but when his 16 handicap was deducted, his net score of 66 was tops in the 13-man field.
Sonny Flores and Jordan Kosam finished tied in second place after both golfers fired identical 69s, but Flores got runner-up honors after edging Kosam in a scorecard tiebreak, which was based on the front nine gross.
The 11-handicap Flores shot an 80 gross, while Kosam was 92 overall. He sports a 23 handicap.
In the closest to the pin competition, Pohnpei’s pride Sasaki Oliver won hole No. 3 after his tee shot landed four feet from the cup.
Ed Kapileo, meanwhile, conquered the windy conditions of the already treacherous No. 14, depositing his golf ball 12 feet from the hole.
The RGA May Ace of the Month Tournament would be held on May 14, Saturday, also at the COP.
RGA president Jess Wabol also congratulated Kosam for winning the club’s April Ace of the Month Tournament.
Wabol reminded members that the club is still entertaining the application of new members. Membership fee is $50, which is the same cost for renewals.
The membership fee covers the period from January to December. The RGA president is also reminding current RGA members to take care of their membership dues as early as possible.
