Hours after the Superior Court dismissed the criminal charges against him, former congressman Stanley Torres declared that he would seek re-election in the coming November polls.

Torres said he would run for a seat in House of Representatives to represent Saipan’s Precinct III, which encompasses the Garapan area.

Torres said he would run as an independent candidate, although he is eyeing to be included in the slate of the Reps. Heinz Hofschneider and Dave Apatang, the gubernatorial aspirants who broke away from the ruling Republican Party.

Torres also used to be a Republican, but has reportedly severed ties with Gov. Juan N. Babauta.

Yesterday, he also thanked his former employees during the 13th Legislature for their support after the dismissal of the charges against him.

“I ask the voters of Precinct III for their support and the opportunity to continue my fight for fairness and justice for everyone in the next 15th Legislature in the coming general election on Nov. 5, 2005,” he said in a media release.

“As for myself, I will continue the fight to make sure there continues to be fairness, justice and accountability. My record of public service shows that I defend the common people and fight for our ordinary citizens who do not have the money or connections to help them in their lives,” he said.

Torres lost his reelection bid in November 2003.
