The Marianas Visitors Authority is hosting 34 travel agents and media representatives from South Korea who arrived yesterday to learn more about the Northern Marianas.

The delegates include agents from different tour agencies, TV personnel from MBC Academy, and reporters from Korean magazines Tour De Monde, Curo, and AB Road.

From 12noon to 2:30pm, the visitors attended a Marianas Tourism Academy session at the Hyatt Regency Saipan’s SandCastle. The seminar focused on the history of the islands.

Afterwards, they proceeded to the Chamolinian Cultural Village in Garapan for a glimpse of local culture. At the village, they participated in cultural activities such as bead and mwar making and basket weaving.

The Korean visitors are scheduled to visit Tinian and Rota before they leave on Sunday, May 15.

“This tour provides tour agents and media representatives a better idea of what the CNMI has to offer Korean tourists,” said Choi Woo Cheol, director of the Korean Tour Association of Saipan.

The association, which is providing ground transportation for the tour participants, co-sponsored the event with MVA and Asiana Airlines.

The Korean group’s visit is part of MVA’s familiarization tour program, which allows participants to visit the destination at no cost, and in turn, relate their experience to their clients, readers, or viewers within their respected countries.

The tours are done through the cooperation of MVA members, which provide complimentary rooms, meals, and discounted services to visiting media and travel agents.
