A modified guitar with two “bongos” comprises his entire ensemble but this musician still manages to capture the hearts and ears of listeners wherever he goes in the world.
K. Benny Prasad is on the island for a brief tour and mini concerts at the invitation of special assistant for youth affairs Florence Kirby, with the help of Youth with a Mission director Rengesuul Yobech.
Kirby introduced Prasad to Cabinet members and guests from University of Hawaii and Northern Marianas College yesterday morning at the Office of the Governor, during which he performed one song.
Prasad, 29, has been to more than 72 countries to spread his music. At the moment, he is finishing up his Pacific Islands tour. He has been to 11 Pacific islands already and he had just come from Guam, Norfolk Islands, East Timor and Palau.
He is also a member of the Youth with a Mission, where he said his mission is to inspire people through his music and tell them that there still is a chance for change.
Prasad has released three albums already, which includes “When the Music Fades,” “In Moments Like These,” and “I Surrender All.”
His music reached its height when he was invited to perform during the 2004 Athens Olympics. He said he was overwhelmed by the recognition as he showcased his passion in jazz and some classical music. He said he had to perform almost every night during the cultural exchanges in Athens.
The Oman Daily Observer newspaper called his music “mesmerizing” and Asian Age newspaper in India said his music is soulful. He also has received praises in Europe.
Prasad is set to conquer South America next, which includes visits and concerts in 10 South American countries beginning middle of this year. He is leaving Saipan today and will be heading back to his hometown in Bangalore, India, before going to South America.
