Police arrested a man Sunday for allegedly stealing money from the poker establishment where he was working for and using the cash to play poker himself.

Thirty-three-year-old Ricky Salibad Luis faces theft charges at the Superior Court.

Luis reportedly admitted that he and co-worker Willy Vinluan at the Joker’s Wild Poker in Puerto Rico had been stealing from the poker establishment on several occasions since March this year to play poker. However, Vinluan had reportedly fled to the Philippines.

In an affidavit submitted to court, police detective Joseph Magofna said Luis admitted to stealing some $1,098.

The total amount of money allegedly stolen by Vinluan had yet to be ascertained, but he allegedly took some $3,000 from the establishment.

Luis and Vinluan both work as cashiers for the poker establishment, the detective said.

Ferdinand Luis, another employee of the company, flew from his Rota office to Saipan over the weekend, reviewed business documents and cash collections and discovered that a sum of money was missing at the Puerto Rico poker house. He then reported the matter to the Department of Public Safety. Documents submitted by police in court did not specify his relationship with the defendant.

No charges have been filed yet against Vinluan. Associate judge Kenneth Govendo imposed a $5,000 bail on Luis.
